Born in the Netherlands on September 6th 1975, Rutger began his career in Amsterdam at a young age. After graduating at the Dutch Hairdressing Academy and the Vidal Sassoon Academy in London, Rutger worked in salons for a couple of years before moving his work into the studio.
Working as a trusted assistant to master hairstylist Guido Palau, it wasn’t long before he learned the ins and outs of the international fashion industry.
Being the son of a painter/sculptor, Rutger always has been surrounded by different forms of art.
Inspired by the art of fashion and his sensibility and passion with regards to beauty, he finds in hair the ultimate material with which to create.
In his career, Rutger has collaborated with some of the industry’s most talented photographers, including Richard Burbridge, Camilla Akrans, Daniel Jackson and Mark Segal among many others. His work has appeared in magazines such as Vogue (Italia, Espana, Germany) V Magazine, Harper's Bazaar, Numéro and Another Magazine.
He is based in New York City.
